L'Shana Tova! We hope everyone had a very happy New Year! We are excited that our dad is improving mentally and grateful that he was able to get out of bed and into a wheelchair for a little bit with the help of his caretakers. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much improvement physically, but we are happy to be getting him back mentally. We have missed him! We are hopeful that this new year will bring him health and healing. Thank you to everyone, as always, for the ongoing support.

Thank you everyone for your continued support for not only our dad, but also our mom. We all appreciate your thoughtful calls, emails and cards.
Our dad is doing better on an intellectual level. He still likes to have discussions about business. and he is starting to use his cell phone & read his emails.....and he has plenty.....a whole month of emails to decipher! He has been less irritable and has been alert for longer periods of time. Thankfully, he has also had some better sleep over the past few nights!
Unfortunately, he still cannot move his lower body much. His left leg is still somewhat completely flaccid and he has minimal movement of his right leg. He still has a very small appetite, if any, and he has been receiving feedings through a G-tube. We are thankful for his wonderful caretakers, who are overseeing his care and helping him with everything he needs.
What he needs most from everyone now is the reassurance that he may be able to walk again. Never say never.....we believe in the power of positivity and we want him to try his best to get better. So, keep those emails and calls coming.....he truly enjoys hearing from each of you & reading all the love and support from all his family & friends!

Unfortunately, the situation hasn't changed very much since he got home from the hospital. He got the feeding tube put in and has been home getting consistent feeding through that tube. It could be quite some time before we see any significant improvements. There will likely be sustained periods of time without any changes. So, while I understand that everyone wants continuous updates and information, the truth is that there isn't really anything happening at the moment. He is fortunate to have wonderful caregivers helping him through this challenging journey. It is very difficult for all of us to watch him go through this and we are hoping to have better news in the future for you. But, for now, please understand that my updates will most likely be less frequent because the progress is going to be very very slow, so daily updates simply do not make sense. I promise that I will provide updates as soon as anything changes, but for now we are pretty much at a plateau. As always, we really appreciate all of your thoughts and support for our family throughout this process, especially for our mom. We are incredibly grateful.

Mentally, our dad is getting better each day. However, despite our best efforts to encourage our dad to eat, he still hasn't regained his appetite. The doctors have grown increasingly concerned because he has lost a lot of weight and they want to make sure he gets all the nutrients he needs. They have decided to give him a feeding tube and he is undergoing surgery today to get the tube in place. We hope that with the feeding tube, he will be able to regain weight more steadily and obtain all the nutrients his body needs to get stronger.

Our dad is really happy to be home, but he is still very weak. He has lost a lot of weight and needs to gain his strength back, which will be a lot of hard work. We are all trying to encourage him as much as possible and his caretakers are absolutely wonderful, but we understand that it can be a frustrating process for him. It requires a lot of patience on his part as well as on our part. Today he was really excited to have Ava come visit him. She brought him a lot of happiness and that encourages him even more to get better as soon as possible.

I'm sorry for not giving an update over the weekend. There really wasn't much of an update to provide. But I know that some of you really rely on these blog posts (which I love) and I sincerely apologize. So here is the latest update for you...
It has officially been 3 weeks in the hospital. Our dad continues to slowly make progress towards recovery. He is on track to come home tomorrow with 24 hour care and all necessary medical supplies. The doctors have told us to try and limit the visitation to help him transition in a calm fashion. We appreciate the support from everyone, but please be sure to contact our mom before coming to visit in order to see if it is a good time. He shouldn't have a lot of stimulation and we appreciate your understanding with that. As always, thank you for all of the love and support throughout these past few weeks. It really does help make this journey a little bit easier for us. We feel incredibly blessed and our hearts are filled with gratitude.
